LEARNING OUTCOME

A candidate graduating from BVM degree will be expected to:

  1. Describe the aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of the common diseases and disorders that occur in the common domestic species:
  2. Collect, preserves and transport samples, perform standard laboratory tests, and interpret the results generated in house and laboratories:
  3. Explain the biological and welfare needs of animals and how management systems meet those needs;
  4. Integrate and apply the knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the health animal in its normal environment:
  5. Analyse concepts and principle regarding public health issues and prevent zoonotic diseases:
  6. Interpret regulations and guidelines:
  7. Analyse the economic and emotional climate in which the veterinary surgeon operates, and respond appropriately to the influence of such pressures:
  8. Conduct oneself in a professional and legal responsibilities.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Two principal passes (4 points) in Chemistry and Biology whereas, an applicant must have a subsidiary in one of the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Nutrition or Agriculture. If one of the subsidiary passes does not include Physics an applicant, must have minimum of “C” grade in Physics, Mathematics and English at O-Level. OR. Diploma in Animal Health, or Animal Production with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. An applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in and English at O-Level. In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Agriculture. Holders of a relevant life science degree.
